Not all touch is safe. Not all touch is comforting. Not all touch heals. Some people have felt the exact opposite—the kind of touch that wounds, that steals trust, that makes love feel unsafe. And not every child has arms that feel like home.
I’ve seen this reality up close. But I’ve also seen something just as real—something even stronger.
When I’m in Uganda, holding a child who doesn’t speak my language, there’s this unspoken connection that happens. It’s not about words. It’s not about culture. It’s something deeper. A kind of knowing. They feel what’s in my heart before I even say a word.
That’s the power of love when it comes from the right place.
Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind—and then to love others. I think He put it in that order for a reason. When we love God first, with everything we are, His love flows through us. It pours out in ways we can’t even explain. And when that love is real—when it comes from a soul level—people feel it. It’s safe. It heals.
I’ve had kids wrap their arms around me like they’ve known me forever. Not because of anything I’ve said, but because love speaks louder than words. It’s not about the language I speak—it’s about the love I carry.
But love at a soul level works both ways. When it’s pure, it builds people up. When it’s selfish or twisted, it breaks them down. And I think that’s why some people struggle to trust love at all—because they’ve experienced the wrong version of it.
So, what if we actually lived the way Jesus told us to? What if we loved God with everything in us, and let that love pour out onto others? What if we stopped trying so hard to explain love and just became love?
How would the world look if we could all do that?
