Day 2 - Church and Buikwe Town

Today is Sunday so we had the privilege of attending church.  There were two to choose from; a student led youth church on campus and the other being Pastor Alex’s community church which is also on campus. Kevin had the opportunity to preach at the latter.  And Chad preached at the youth service. We had team members at both services.

Terry and I first attended the youth service and were blown away by their enthusiasm. There was an all youth worship team that sang and danced along with about 50 other youth in attendance.  It was exhilarating.

Then the ones who were at the youth service went to hear Kevin preach as well.

It was a spirit filled morning for all of us!!

After lunch we got a tour of all the buildings at the secondary school and heard from Samuel the school’s vice headmaster. It was wonderful to see the dormitories with a lot of the kids in them. We were able to connect with quite a few of them.

Later in the afternoon we were escorted on a short walk into Buikwe and Paul, who took us around, showed us some previous students of the school who had either started their own business in town or were working locally. We enjoyed a refreshment before we were taken to their local “radio” station where the sponsored kids came to write their letters to their sponsors.  And during that time we had a few very young children following us around and every few minutes there would be more until it grew to about 15. They were all so inquisitive and super cute.

We stayed in town long enough to watch a local soccer game but missed Kevin playing due to needing to get back for supper and not keep Irene (the cook) waiting.

We had a full day, made even better, because Terry and I were also celebrating our 40th Anniversary together today!!!
