Young Adult Ministries Report - Rob Mudde, Pastor of Young Adult & Student Ministries

Dear CrossRoads Church,

I want you to know what the young adults have been up to this year at CrossRoads.

Ministry ReportsMonday Night

Every Monday night (42 in a year) we meet from 7:00-midnight as a young adult community. Each night we get about 80-100 people a night with occasional drops to 60 people during exam weeks. We play, connect, and hear/discuss how to apply God’s word in our lives.

This year with food prices going up, we found a really great new groove. Food from scratch is cheaper then ready-made so we now have a pretty talented team of 6 that can make some pretty incredible snacks and still remain in budget. Young adults often walk in and head straight to the youth center kitchen to see if they can get a hint of what’s coming up for food later on in the night.

Our teaching theme this year was all about Psalm 23 and “The Good Shepherd”. We’ve talked at length about Jesus’ care, guidance, and sacrificial love. We have also spent a lot of time asking ourselves; “Is Jesus actually my shepherd? Am I being shepherded by other things? Do I put my trust, care, and dependence on Jesus as my shepherd? What keeps me from not finding the table He has set for me? Is it the “presence of my enemies”? How do you eat and receive when your enemies are nearby? This has been such a rewarding journey to teach on and discuss with out Young Adults this year.

Sunday Night Volleyball

Are there still 52 Sundays in a year? Well then there are 52 planned volleyball nights for young adults at CrossRoads. This year we had a steady amount of 40-50 players -both experienced and non-experienced- to come play volleyball with us after the Sunday evening service. This group is a place for students to connect, make friends through sports, and then find their way into Monday Night Young Adults and the Sunday evening service. We get many people who just come for volleyball, so this is an amazing ministry opportunity and gateway to helping them become more involved in the church.

Connecting Events

Ministry ReportsWe have events spaced out through the year geared to attracting new students to our group by making it easy for our existing students to invite them. We create atmospheres where students can come, get to know each other, and get to know me in a more playful way. We did an All-You-Can-Eat Wing Night for the grade 12s, a Christmas formal, dance lessons, a city-wide scavenger hunt, and most recently, Man Tracker.

NOTE: If you are a young adult or know of a young adult who should be a part of our group, you don’t have to wait till the next school year to start joining us. Young Adults continues throughout the summer as well! The Young Adults age out around 25 years old and we include students going into grade 12. We have a regular attendance of about fifteen grade 12s.

For regular updates, follow our group on Instagram @cryoungadult

In the Summer we have special events which include: a bike trip to the Highwood Pass, a hammock adventure camping trip, a week of sailing along Vancouver Island, regular camp fires and different young adult homes, a Red Deer River float, and whatever else our Young Adult Leadership Team dreams up.

CrossRoads Church congregation, a huge thanks for your support! Without you we would not be able to do what we do.
