It seems God had a plan for the countless bunches of bananas, pounds of butter, bags of chocolate chips & scoops of flour I went through baking Banana Bread – 30 loaves in fact.
In anticipation of our daughter & her family’s short term mission to Haiti, my grand-daughter & I hatched a plan to fundraise through selling these chocolate flecked creations. After amassing what we calculated was a good starting amount, safely packaged & frozen, the Haiti trip was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
While pondering these multitudes of mouth-watering treats with nowhere to go, I felt a gentle nudge from Jesus. He directed me to my neighbours, & the neighbours of our daughter & her family as well as other family members. He helped me to know these precious people were the perfect recipients. Reaching out to them in the face of a pandemic, with encouraging words & gifts of food has been intimate, easy & profound. The simple act of sharing from one household to another in the midst of uncertainty built a unique experience of hope, an uplifting dialogue grounded in compassion. In the casual chatting over thresholds, while observing appropriate social distancing, we uncovered more about each other & found new places of commonality.
So, ultimately, Jesus had a plan for the banana bread!!
The unfolding of this event & how Jesus lined things up so beautifully for such a time as this is a wonderful reminder of His special attention & compassion for each of us.
I am reminded of a passage of scripture: Every good & perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights. James 1:17.
Thank You Father!
